Our Story

How it all started...

First Baptist Church, formerly the Swansboro Baptist Church, was organized in 1896. In 1897, the young church put up a building on the corner of Main and Water streets. Soon after the church was built, a four-room parsonage that was erected on Walnut street.
Rev. Laurie J. Atkinson was the first full-time pastor. Under his leadership the present church was erected on the corner of NC24 and Park Lane.  The educational building was completed in February 1957. A new parsonage was complete in 1963 on a lot adjacent to the church.  A church fellowship hall, built on property behind the sanctuary was complete in 1992.
First Baptist Swansboro grew from 13 charter members to that of more than 500.

Expanding the vision...

Under the leadership of Rev. Michael Wilkinson, First Baptist Church of Swansboro broke ground in 2010 to begin construction the current Family Life Center. The church began using the building in the summer of 2011. It has been a huge blessing in growing our ministry space, Sunday school groups and other programs.
In September 2018, Hurricane Florence had a huge impact on our facilities. We had significant damage to our main Sanctuary building and Family Life Center. Both buildings have been restored and to God be the glory for guiding us through that process. We currently hold our worship service in the worship area of our Family Life Center and stream the service to our Chapel in the Sanctuary building.
